Night Festival 2009
This festival is organised by the National Museum. Stretching from SMU Campus Green to the grounds of National Musuem, the festival was an outdoor extravaganza of theatrical performances accompanied by live music and dance. The highlight of the festival and what CY and I went there for was the Loop of Fortune performance by some German performance group.
Despite the current influenza, the performance still attracted a crowd to the space. Not managing to grab the front space, I was vertically challenged to watch the performance, not to mention positioning myself comfortably to get good pictures. Luckily CY there could fulfil the task! Even though I could not grasp the full plot, the lightings, sounds and fireworks display was enough to keep my senses busy! I especially liked the special effects they projected onto the entire front of the National Museum that depicted weeds slowly grew onto the building and ultimately covered the entire neo-classical architecture.
Thinking back, the govt has been promoting our heritage and culture among citizens as well as to attract tourism. From what I can see, the turnout for this event comprised largely of foreigners. Shouldn't we as Singaporeans also play our role well and put in the effort in understanding the country better? As our country age, her heritage and cultural footprints increases. Shouldn't we start tracing these footsteps to deepen our roots, before we lose our footings and trip over our self-centredness?
Heritagefest coming up, anyone interested?
Quick info about Heritagefest:
An annual event organised by the National Heritage Board, this festival aims to educate the citizens on the rich and diversified cultures of Singapore through heritage tours and exhibitions. This year's theme is on knowing more about the cultures of neighbouring countries such as Myammar, Philippines and Korea.
One of the events Expedition H is a heritage trail to bring us to various communities living in Singapore, but the registration for it has already closed. However, we can still visit the Festival hub at Suntec and make a trip down to Vivocity Amphitheatre on various dates to catch the
Sound Stories - a (free admission) live concert by local musical talents such as Jack & Rai and EIC to reminisce songs of the yesteryears.
